The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists (TBABJ) is a proud affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). TBABJ formed in 1990 and was previously known as the Suncoast Association of Black Communicators.
TBABJ is committed to ensuring diversity in local media and honest, balanced coverage of the Tampa Bay area’s Black communities. TBABJ represents journalists in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Polk, Manatee and Sarasota counties along Florida’s west coast. We strive to serve, educate and empower news consumers in this region we call home.
TBABJ is a 501(c) (3) organization with an executive board consisting of president, vice president of print, vice president of broadcast, vice president of digital, treasurer, secretary and parliamentarian. The chapter exists as part of NABJ Region III, and in 2009, the chapter hosted NABJ’s national convention.
